How Dental Implants Work
Placing the Implant
During your initial visit, our dentists assess your eligibility for receiving dental implants. Once we have determined that you are a potential candidate to recieve a dental implant we make arrangements for you to see an oral surgeon at their clinic. The oral surgeon will take a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) 3D scan to confirm our findings and determine the best position for the implant. In certain cases the oral surgeon may determine that bone augmentation may be necessary for the best long term outcome of your implant. Once the implant site has been deemed satisfactory, the implant can finally be placed by the oral sugeon. A general rule of thumb is that there is a 3 to 6 months healing period which allows for the implant site to heal and for osseointegration between the implant and jaw bone. The oral surgeon will perform something called a torque test to confirm that the implant is properly integrated into your jaw bone. If it passes the test, the final restoration can be placed.
